Hosted by the Blount County Public Library.  Authors Sherri Gardner Howell (Sweet Notes of Influence and Sara Baker (Wedded to Human Improvement) and editors Charlotte Crawford and Ruth Johnson Smiley will participate. Gardner Howell, a popular newspaper columnist, contributed a profile on Julia Britton Hooks, a gifted black musician who founded the Hooks School of Music and an elementary school for black children. Baker, a free lance writer and advocate for women, wrote about Frances “Fanny” Wright who created a planned community in Tennessee for citizens who shared beliefs in racial equality while working toward emancipation of slaves.
